Account & login
Can I log in with my email address instead of my username?
Yes. The login box accepts either your username or the email address on your account — whichever you prefer.
My iPhone did not offer to save my password. What do I do?
Make sure you are using Safari or a browser that supports Apple Passwords. When the login form appears, tap the key icon above the keyboard. If it still does not appear, go to Settings → Passwords on your iPhone and save the credentials manually. Going forward, the site is set up correctly for automatic password prompts.
I forgot my password. Can I reset it?
Yes — tap Forgot password? on the login screen and enter your email address. You will receive a reset link. Note that resetting your password does not give you access to your old entries — your entries are encrypted with your previous password. After resetting, your entry history will be blank. This is why regular exports are strongly recommended.
Can I change my username?
Yes, from the Profile tab. Bear in mind that your username is only used for login — your display name (also on the Profile tab) is what other group members see.
Privacy & encryption
Can the site administrator see my weight?
No. Your weight is encrypted in your browser before it is sent to the server. The server stores only encrypted data — the administrator sees cipher text, not numbers. The only person who can decrypt your entries is you, using your password.
Can other group members see my actual weight?
No. The leaderboard only ever shows changes — either your weight delta (how much you have lost or gained) or your percentage lost, depending on your sharing preference. Your actual weight figures never leave your device in readable form.
If I share weight change, can someone work out my actual weight?
Not from the delta alone — they would need to know your starting weight. If you are concerned, switch to % loss only in Settings under Group leaderboard sharing. In this mode your weight delta is not sent to the server at all, making reverse-calculation impossible.
Can I share both weight change and % loss on the leaderboard?
No, deliberately. Sharing both together would allow other members to calculate your actual starting weight. You choose one or the other.
What happens to my data if I change my password?
All your entries are re-encrypted with the new password automatically. This happens in your browser — the server never sees your actual data during the process. Do not close the browser tab while re-encryption is running.
Logging entries
How do I enter stones and pounds?
Use a dot as a separator between stones and pounds — for example, 11 stone 7 pounds is entered as 11.7, and 11 stone 10 pounds is 11.10. Note that the pounds part is a whole number (0–13), not a decimal — 11.10 means 11st 10lb, not 11st 1lb.
Can I edit or delete a past entry?
Yes. In the history table, tap ✏️ to edit an entry or ✕ to delete it.
Can I add entries for past dates?
Yes. Change the date in the log form to any date in the past. There can only be one entry per date — saving a second entry for the same date will overwrite the first.
Do I have to log measurements?
No. Only weight is required. All body measurements (waist, neck, chest, etc.) are optional and can be filled in whenever you like.
Goals & targets
What is the difference between a weight target and a % loss target?
A weight target is a specific weight you want to reach (e.g. 11st 7lb or 73 kg). A % loss target is a percentage of your starting weight you want to lose (e.g. 10%). Both show a progress bar and a dashed target line on the relevant chart. Neither is ever shared with your group.
Can I see my target on the chart?
Yes. A dashed amber line appears on the weight chart and the % loss chart whenever a target is set. The weight chart shows the target as the amount still to lose, the % loss chart shows it as a percentage.
I changed from stones to kg but my target weight did not convert.
In version 3.6.0 and later, the target weight field converts automatically when you change the unit. If you are on an older version, update the plugin and the conversion will happen in Settings.
What does the recording start date do?
It sets the baseline for all percentage calculations, the goal progress bar, and the % loss chart. Useful if you have reached a goal and want to start fresh tracking without deleting your history. Set it to today (or any date) and everything from that point is treated as your new starting point.
Groups & leaderboard
How do I join a group?
Go to the Groups tab, enter the invite code your group administrator gave you, and tap Join. If the group requires approval, you will see a pending status until the owner accepts you.
Why does my % on the leaderboard look different from my personal % loss?
The leaderboard % is calculated from the group’s start date (if one is set), not your personal start date. This ensures everyone in the group is compared from the same point in time.
What does the % badge next to someone’s name mean?
It means that member is sharing % loss only rather than weight delta. Their weight change column shows a percentage figure instead of a weight amount.
Can members on different sharing modes be ranked together?
Yes, but with caveats. When sorting by weight change, members sharing only % will appear at the bottom (and vice versa). For a fair comparison within a group, it helps if all members use the same sharing mode.
Can I be in more than one group?
Yes. Join as many groups as you like. The leaderboard tab lets you switch between them.
Data & backups
How do I back up my data?
Go to the Tools tab and tap Export everything. This downloads a CSV of all your entries and a JSON file with your settings. Store these files somewhere safe — a cloud drive, email, or password manager.
How do I move my data to a new device?
Log in on the new device and go to Tools → Import. Import your entries CSV first, then your profile JSON to restore all settings. Height and preferences are also synced from your account automatically on login.
I imported a CSV but my entries are blank.
Entries in the CSV are still encrypted. When you import, GroupWeight re-encrypts them using your current password. Make sure you are logged in with the same account that created the export, and that your password has not changed since the export was made.
How often should I export?
After each significant milestone, or at least once a month. Because entries are encrypted with your password, a password reset will make old entries unreadable — your export is the only recovery option.
Security
Should I enable two-factor authentication?
Yes, if you can. 2FA means that even if someone knows your password, they still cannot access your account without your phone. Use any standard authenticator app such as Google Authenticator, Authy, or 1Password.
I see sessions I do not recognise. What should I do?
Go to Profile → Security → Active sessions. Tap Revoke all other sessions to sign out every other device instantly, then change your password immediately.
How do I sign out of all devices?
In the Security tab under Active sessions, tap Revoke all other sessions. Your current session stays active. Then sign out of your current session from the Tools tab if needed.
